The Bubbas (Boys Using Bass, Beat and Song)

Founder Patrick Henry's musical roots began during his days as the lead singer for C. Rock City, a miscellaneous group of professionals whose musical hobbies took them to bars and fraternity parties all over the Show Me State. Reviving the live rock music scene in the late 1970s, Patrick Henry jammed with the band on weekends while working on his Ph.D. and teaching high school English part time. C. Rock City became a cult favorite with a huge following.

Patrick's musical interests were put on hold while he carved out a career as a Professor and Dean of Education at Lincoln University in Jefferson City. It wasn't until years later that his musical yearnings again took hold.

With the birth of his second son, Christian, Patrick resumed his musical vocation. Singing lullabies to his 1-year old son who often joined him by banging on pots and pans, Patrick picked up his Fender Stratocaster again and had a brainstorm - a family band. When older son John-Michael began to play the bass and sing, the trio was complete. It wasn't long before the new band, after practicing in their home studio nightly, wanted to take their act on the road. Playing county fairs, family-friendly restaurants and local venues brought the band a following and soon 'The Bubbas' was born.

"Christian has always called his older brother Bubba," says mother Melinda Henry. "When we entered the Boone County Fair we had to have a name, and the band agreed 'The Bubbas' made sense."
